Activities & Plans of the Foundation to date:
1. Our non-profit corporation was officially chartered by the Virginia State Corporation Commission on May 6 2009 as "The 10th Amendment Foundation, Inc." We have published over 10,000 membership brochures and obtained banners for public occurrences. We passed out 3500 brochures at the Va. GOP State Convention.
2. We have begun to contact numerous members of Congress to ask them why they haven't called on the President to justify his unconstitutional "power grab" and to point out in no uncertain terms that that was one of their duties as members of Congress (as one of the three "checks and balances" in the Federal government). if they weren't going to carry out their oaths to "defend the Constitution" that they ought to stop taking their pay from the taxpayers, and just go home.
3. We had a "float" in the Bristol Va-Tn 4th of July parade on July 4th. It had a banner saying "They're trashing our constitution" with several teenagers tearing up pieces of paper and throwing them into trash cans. We had a good reception with a number of people clapping as we passed by. Maybe people are beginning to think about the loss of our freedoms as guaranteed by the Constitution.
4. We sponsored a "Tea Party 2" family picnic at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol from 4:00 to 8:00 on July 6th. Tennessee & Virginia Congressmen and Senators are being invited to hear from, and speak with, their constituents.
Congressman Phil Roe has accepted our invitation. There were over two hundred people there and we had a good number of them join the foundation. We also made contact with some real political and economic leaders from East Tennessee come to make contact and to make plans to officially organize the 1st Tn Chapter of the foundation. We had very good press coverage (see below). We also had people writing letters to our southwest Virginia Congressman and all 4 Senators (Virginia & Tennessee) about "Cap and Trade" and the so called "National Health Care plans" which are both massively unconstitutional. We are making plans to hand deliver those letters en mass at the addressees' 9th District offices in the near future.
5. We also understand that Congressman Boucher is having a "thank you Congressman Boucher" rally on the 11th. A number of us plan on having signs there that say "Thank you Congressman Boucher for voting for Cap and Trade and costing my husband his job" and "thank you Congressman Boucher for voting for Cap and trade and doubling my electric bill," etc. We are going to keep up the pressure until Congressman Boucher begins to pay some attention to us or gets out.
